About the Wellsville ELC
The Wellsville YMCA is committed to providing affordable, dependable, high-quality childcare services on a year-round basis, to working families of the Allegany County area. The YMCA Early Learning Center provides a safe and educational environment for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. We are licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and utilize the Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies with Teacher's Gold Assessments. Each classroom provides an array of materials and activities to enhance your child’s development. We encourage parents to come and observe their child’s interactions with both the classroom teachers and the other children. Each day you will receive a "day sheet" informing you of your child’s activities, accomplishments, and behaviors for that day. Each room is equipped with a refrigerator and storage for your child’s food needs. The center provides breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks following the nutritional guidelines set forth by The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Child care is provided on a year-round basis excluding:
•  New Year’s Day
•  Good Friday (close at noon)
•  Memorial Day
•  4th of July
•  Labor Day
•  Thanksgiving Day
•  Christmas Eve (close at noon)
•  Christmas Day
•  Also closed 8/21/2023 - 8/25/2023 for Staff Development Days and annual deep cleaning week.

Care is available every day including school vacations and holidays (except those listed above), throughout the summer, and on school snow days. With over 25 childcare staff members, childcare is always available.

All YMCA Early Learning Child Development Staff have:
•  More than two years of early childcare experience.
•  FBI clearance, state criminal background check, and child abuse clearance.
•  15 hours of annual training including child abuse, fire safety, water safety, and Pediatric First Aid/CPR.
•  Our Early Learning staff are all trained in the “Darkness to Light” program. For more information CLICK HERE.
•  Lead teachers minimally have an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field; or a Child Development Associate Credential.

Infant Care
Ages: 6 weeks – 12 months

In our Itsy Bitsy rooms, you will find a calm and soothing environment for your child that includes an array of sensory toys, music, balls and soft literacy materials. Infants also participate in age appropriate crafts and outdoor adventures when weather permits. Each child receives his or her own crib and cubby to store items in this room. At the end of each day, parents will receive a "day sheet" letting them know how their child’s day was along with the activities they did.

Toddler Care
Ages: 12 – 36 months

In the Tiny Tots rooms, your child will develop their social, emotional, and gross motor skills by using sensory toys, musical instruments, a dramatic play kitchen set, art supplies and literacy materials. The children will also be introduced to a daily routine including circle time and an age appropriate curriculum. This room focuses on social interactions with your child’s peers and adults, as well as their environment. Children will also have free play to explore all the materials that are in the room. We also help with your child’s potty training milestone and love to take outdoor adventures when weather permits. Each child receives their own assigned cubby and nap mate upon enrollment.

Pre-School Care
Ages: 3 – 5 years

In the Little Learners Room, we focus on preschool learning. They engage in literacy, math and science centers each day as well as gross and fine motor skills development. Children enjoy free time and exploring all the materials at their disposal with guided learning from the trained staff. Our center is designed to prepare children for success in school and in life with the leading research-based, whole-child curriculum built for early childhood educators.

Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is available to area families through the NYS  Department of Social Services (DSS), for income guidelines CLICK HERE. Also, scholarship funds are available and provided through the YMCA Annual Campaign for parents who do not qualify for DSS. Contact the center for more information or fill out and print form HERE.
