About

Welcome to the Y!

Welcome to the YMCA of the Twin Tiers.   I am honored to be the Chief Executive Officer of our YMCA and proud of the work we do to strengthen the communities we serve.  I cannot think of a more exciting, cause-driven organization to belong to, raise a family in, work for, volunteer for, or donate to.

Since 1886, the YMCA of the Twin Tiers has served families of the Southern Tier in countless ways, including swim lessons, camp, teen nights, adult fitness, childcare, health and wellness programs and so much more.

Today, our communities and country are going through unprecedented challenges, and I am enormously proud of how our YMCA continues to work hard to overcome many of the obstacles we face. I am humbled by the ongoing support as our team has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure we show up every day for our communities.

The mission of the Y is still very much at work in our community. Services provided by the Y are not just programs that are appreciated by our members, but to many, they are essential to their well-being or the overall strength and success of their family.

At the YMCA, we are for:

Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. At our YMCA, we provide a safe, fun environment for children at our Early Learning Centers and during after-school programs to give working parents peace of mind; we help children discover friendships and build confidence at summer camp; we ensure that every child can safely enjoy water activities for life through progress swim instruction; we foster skill development and sportsmanship through a wide variety of youth activities, and much, much more.

Healthy Living: Improving the health and well-being of our communities. The YMCA of the Twin Tiers is committed to helping adults, children, and families of all ages and abilities lead healthy, active lifestyles.  To that end, we ensure that seniors remain active both physically and socially; we help individuals set goals, lose weight, feel healthier and gain confidence; we provide rehabilitation and recovery from life’s setbacks, and we foster this through welcoming and judgment-free spaces for all.

Social Responsibility. Giving back and providing support to our neighbors. We offer volunteer opportunities for members to give back to their community through both the YMCA and other non-profits. We support and nurture folks struggling with mental health concerns.  Our financial aid program ensures that all YMCA programs and services are available to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

If you are considering joining, donating, or volunteering at our YMCA, I invite you to stop into one of our branches and see all that we have to offer.

Sincerely,
Jeff Townsend
CEO, YMCA of the Twin Tiers
